Pictures of a vacation - 07.21.00 - 08.07.00

So, you want to see the east, do ya? I can sum up the east in two words: It's big. While Winnipeg is, longitudinally, in the centre of Canada, what makes the distance difference from heading out west is the east's non-linear travelling.

In my 9,300 kilometre sojourn, my tour went something like this: Thunder Bay(Ontario), Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury, Toronto, Niagara Falls, Vermont, Sherbrooke(Quebec), Fredericton(New Brunswick), St. John, Moncton, Halifax(Nova Scotia), Antigonish, Sydney, Quebec city, Montreal, Ottawa, then homeward with a few stops on the way.

There is a scenic site 100 kms from Sault St. Marie that offers an unimpeded view of Lake Superior, particularly when the sun is setting smack dab in the middle of the view. Sadly, I missed that shot, so we'll just get on with the ones I did capture. I have some black and white pictures you can view here.

My name's Dennis!
As usual, please keep in mind, most of these on-the-road shots are taken while driving 100-120kph on the highway with an SLR (ie. manual) camera! I may have missed that other shot, but this one was begging to be shot. This is Old Woman Bay. I know what you're thinking. I have NO idea.

Water...and lots of it!
The next few images will be about water and pretty much self-explanatory. This water, mind you, happens to be from Niagara Falls.

Care for a dip?
This part is great... you just feel like jumping into the falls, being free and one with the water! Then you look down at the rocks below and go back to eating your wet hotdog.

It's gonna blow!
This is taken from about a block away from the falls. The mist shooting up is more than twice as high as the actual falls.

...it's the humidity!
You can see the ship on the bottom left of the picture; this is a suicide run. Actually, it's a boat full of people who pay to be doused by the falls, to see the falls "up close". I suspect some of them figure this is easier than taking a shower. See the little bottle of shampoo in the upper deck!?

moo!
This is the Deer Gardens at Niagara Falls in Marine Land (see, Marine Land isn't just about marine!). Actually, it's a compound that has scores of deer walking around waiting to be fed by the people who buy deer food. They even come up to those like me who have nothing to offer (then quickly walk away after discovering I have nothing). Leeches.

Bambi!
A closeup of the lads.
